What's the definition of a Dream?

Dreaming is the combination of thoughts, images and feelings. Every person is expected for two hours of sleep each night. However, some dreamers think their dreams to be longer than this.

Theories of the function of dreams

In the last two centuries, various dream theories have been formulated. These theories have their roots in the belief that dreams are manifestations of the brain, which is a psychological phenomenon that occurs during the REM stage of sleep.

In this phase, the unconscious brain is busy processing the memory. The result is a data stream from memory storage that flow through the conscious part of our brain. This is known as the theory of continuous activation.

Another theory, which is known as the stimulant response theory recognizes the notion that dreams are a kind of wish-fulfillment. This is because dreams express wants that aren't met in the real world.

The threat simulation theory proposes that dreams are used for evolutionary reasons. During the REM stage of sleep an amygdala brain region, part that is part of the area of fight-or-flight in the brain, is activated similarly to when faced with a threat of survival. This would have conferred an evolutionary advantage in preparing our bodies for potentially dangerous incidents.

The REM stage

REM, or rapid eye movement, is what we call it when it comes down to sleeping. As the night draws in brains make the majority of its use by recreating the things it's learned in its regular hours of. One example is the sexual sexifier. The Octavet is at its peak, and this is an ideal time to be around your significant other.

The REM region is also home to a variety of the top brainwaves in every day, including more mysterious ones. The most prominent occupants in REM include insomniacs as well as depressed types. Unsurprisingly, a new study has shown that depression sufferers tend to be more restful and for longer amounts of time. This is due in part to a multitude of causes, the most obvious being they are an adolescent child.

Nightmares

Nightmares can be frightening experience. It is usually followed by other unpleasant feelings. They may happen infrequently or in a pattern. They can also be caused through anxiety or trauma. In some instances they could also be related to medical conditions.

The first step to repressing your nightmares is understanding how they function. The subject of a nightmare may be influenced due to a variety of things, such as the mood of the person who is dreaming and the subject of the previous dream, the news, and even other events within the dreamer's world.

In some cases one can modify the content of the dream, which includes the outcome. This can be done through a variety of ways however the most commonly used method is to practice a new version of the nightmare prior falling asleep.

Latent content

If there is apparent and hidden content in dreams is a matter of debate. Freud asserted that the two are interrelated. He also compared dreams to an iceberg. There's part of the iceberg , which can be seen above the water, and the other is hidden below the surface.

Freud believed that there are three parts to the mind. In the mind of conscious, it is the tip of the iceberg, while the unconscious mind and the latent are at the lowest. He believed that the most effective way to glimpse the unconscious was through dreams.

There are two kinds of dreams' content: latent and manifest. The latter includes the actual content of the dream and the meaning of it. Sometimes, it's just comprised of memory fragments along with a sequence of symbolic events. In theory it's feasible to transform the actual content into the latent.

Freud's axiom

Sigmund Freud's notion of dreaming is that dreaming is a wish fulfilled. It implies that all individuals are neurotic. In addition, Freud stated that dreams can't be real, only that they function as a substitute for reality.

The content of a dream is divided into two different parts one of which is the manifest, and another called the latent. It is the manifest that is the actual content, while the latent is the hallucinatory part of the dream. The manifest content results from information processing. The latent contents are hidden desires , as well as various forms of hallucination.

There are four methods that mask the dream. They are decryption, displacement transference, disguise, and decryption. The first is displacement. The process occurs when the dreamer replaces certain elements from his or their dreams for similar elements in dream-thoughts. It is a result of the weakness of the brain that sleeps.
