Is it a Dream?

Having a dream is the sequence of thoughts, images and feelings. We are all expected to have two hours of dreams every night. However, there are some who believe their dreams to be more than this.

Theories about the purpose of dreams

In the past two centuries, a variety of dream theories have been formulated. These theories stem from the belief that dreams are manifestations by the mind, which is a psychological phenomenon that takes place during the REM phase of sleep.

During this time, the unconscious part of the brain is busy processing memory. It results in a stream from the memory stores that circulates through the conscious part of our brain. This theory is often called the theory of continual activation.

Another theory, called the stimulant response theory recognizes the dream as a form of wish-fulfillment. This is because dreams represent desires that do not come to fruition in actual life.

The threat simulation theory proposes that dreams are used to serve an evolutionary goal. When you are in the REM phase of sleep, the amygdala, a part from the fight-orflight portion of the brain, acts similarly in response to a survival threat. This would have brought the evolutionary benefit of prepping our bodies for potentially dangerous circumstances.

The REM stage

The term REM (or rapid eye) movement is the term used to describe the process for those who sleep. In this sleep-like state, the brain makes the most of its resources by revisiting the skills it did not learn in its normal daytime. One example is the sexuality. In this period, the octavet is at its highest in the morning, which is the most ideal time to be close to your loved one.

The REM enclosure is also the location of many of the most well-known brainwaves of the day, as well as the more esoteric ones. The most notable REM-bound occupants are insomniacs, depressed types and depressed. Interestingly, a recent study finds that those with depression are more likely to go to bed earlier and for longer lengths of time. This can be due to a number of reasons, with the most obvious being that they're an adolescent daughter.

Nightmares

Nightmares can be terrifying experience. They're usually associated with other unpleasant feelings. They can occur infrequently as well as regularly. They can also be caused through anxiety or trauma. In certain instances they could be caused by medical conditions.

The first step in controlling your nightmares , is to understand how they work. The topic of the dream is affected by a number of variables, including the mood of the individual who is dreaming and the subject of the previous dream, the news, and even other events on the horizon of the dreamer's.

In some instances, a dreamer can actively manipulate the details of a dreams, including the outcomes. This can be accomplished in many ways but the most effective method is to try to recreate a changed version of the dream before going to bed.

Latent content

In the event that there is unspoken and unexplained content that is present in dreams is a matter of debate. Freud said that dreams and latent content are interrelated. Freud also believed that dreams were an iceberg. There's a portion in the iceberg's surface that can be seen above water, and the other is hidden under the surface.

Freud believed there were three components to the mind. Conscious mind was the leading edge of the brain, while Latent and unconscious minds are the lowest. They believed the best method of observing the unconscious was by way of dreams.

There are two kinds for dreaming content: latent and manifest. The latter category includes the actual dream content along with the meaning behind it. Most often, it's a mixture of memory fragments and a series of symbolic events. In the theory of physics, the possibility exists to transform an actual message into latent.

Freud's axiom

Sigmund Freud's dream axiom refers to dreams as wish-fulfillments. This implies that all people are neurotic. Furthermore, Freud stated that dreams cannot be real, but they're a form of substitute for reality.

The dream's content is divided into two parts one of which is the manifest, and another called the latent. The manifest portion is the actual content, while dream hallucinations are the second aspect associated with the dream. The manifest content can be attributed to information processing. Latent content can be described as hidden desires and various other forms of hallucination.

There are four strategies that are used to conceal the dreams that lie hidden. These are displacement, decryption transference, disguise, and decryption. The first one is displacement. This happens when a lucid dreamer replaces certain elements from his or their dream with the same elements in dream-thoughts. It's a result of the weak control of the sleeping brain.
